Get to Know Any Components or Parts Contained Inside the Autoclave

In carrying out the sterilization process, the autoclave is equipped with several important components or parts so that the autoclave's performance can remain stable. The parts in this autoclave function to help complete and support the sterilization process to be smooth, if there is damage or defect in one of the parts, the autoclave sterilization process will be disrupted and not optimal.

Although there are many different types of autoclaves, in general the components or parts and their functions have similarities with each other. Here are some parts that are mostly owned by each type of autoclave, such as:

  • Timer. The timer functions to adjust the length of time the sterilization process takes according to a predetermined time requirement. The timer feature is usually found in most automated-system electric autoclaves.
  • Steam Valve. The steam valve is the smallest part of the autoclave but has a very large and important benefit, because the steam valve is used to release water vapor during the sterilization process.
  • Pressure Gauge. Usually located at the top (lid) of the autoclave. This section serves to measure and control the steam pressure inside the autoclave. The existence of a pressure gauge allows us to know the amount of steam pressure and approximately how long it takes to carry out the sterilization process in the autoclave.
  • Power Button. Serves to turn on and off the autoclave machine. All types of autoclaves generally have this button, so if this button is damaged, certainly the autoclave will also not be able to be used.
  • Thermometer. To carry out the sterilization process, different temperature measurements are needed and depend on the type of object being sterilized. The thermometer in the autoclave is used to determine and help control the temperature required for sterilization.
  • Heat Source Plate. Used to help convert electrical energy into heat energy. The heat source plate is made of copper wire coils that can distribute and produce heat energy.
  • Safety Valve. Serves to hold and lock the top (lid) of the autoclave so that it does not open easily during the sterilization process. Safety valves are also used to maintain the amount and pressure of the steam contained inside the autoclave.
  • Goose power. Goose power is mostly available in automated-system electric autoclaves. Goose power is used to limit the addition of water.
  • Aluminum Container. A limitation of adding water is usually found in manual autoclave types that generate heat energy by using a fire or stove.
  • Exhaust Channel / Sewer. Exhaust channel is used to expel and eliminate air which is placed at the bottom of the autoclave.
  • Vacuum Pump. Serves to suck air or mixed steam inside the autoclave.
